How our adoptions work

Application
We are not like a typical shelter that you'll never hear from again. Responsive is our middle name! To help us be both responsive and effective, make sure to fill out all fields in our adoption application with as many details as possible. Our review process includes examining your application, contacting your references, a light background check and a virtual home visit. The home visit is important to ensure these pups do not return to a hazardous environment.

Transport

If the potcake of your dreams is local to you, you can skip to step 3!
If the the pup you've applied for is still on the island, we will initiate transport protocol once your application is approved. What does this mean? Depending on the size of your pup, we will work on scheduling a flight either via in-cabin (under 20 lbs) or via cargo (over 20 lbs). You will be updated every step of the way and added to a group chat so you always know where your pup is and how they're doing. It's also incredibly powerful to follow along their journey and learn all that goes into rescuing and what we do.
Agreement and Adoption Fee
Once your application is approved and transport is scheduled (if applicable), you will receive an adoption agreement via DocUSign. Once executed, we will proceed with the adoption fee. Every adoption is unique - we can work together to offer flexibility per situation and respective timing. Our priority is rescuing the dogs and getting them into safe, loving forever homes. The adoption fees and donations allow us to rescue pups like yours, spay and neuter the strays as well as make miracles possible.

Arrival of your companion!
It's transfer day! You're now a part of our global yet close knit community. You will receive a welcome packet inclusive of resources relevant to your geography, a few helpful tips for a smooth transition (for both you and pup) and link to join our Potcake Parents group. This group is incredibly meaningful to the heroes on the island as they work tirelessly around the clock to feed, care for, rescue and comfort the potcakes. It means the world for the team to see these potcakes grow and thrive (as well as gives them reason to carry on and not give up - animal rescue is incredibly exhausting both physically and mentally).
REMINDER!
We have more than just dogs currently in the USA, we ALSO have dogs arriving to the USA shortly and dogs that can be sent to your nearest airport if given a chance!
